Abstract

Education is a major part of our lives. After our basic education in our early lives, it is in our own interest that we pursue higher education. Since education is a value part of our lives as students, we expect the best from our professors and higher educational system. In today's digital age we find education to be more incorporated with technology everyday.

Higher education has to deal with the incoming uses of modern technology. This is great for the newer generation and older generations of students. Old uses or techniques that higher education uses are outstanding and forever lasting. Having new technologies ever increasing in our digital age. Higher education is now starting to incorporate both old methods and new technology tools to help students learn more with ease.

With the final webtext coming up. There is still much that can be done to improve it immensely. First things first, i would either rethink or readjust the introduction. The introduction does give an idea of what i am going to be talking about, but not specifically. I could either add on to the intro, or i could edit most of it to help refine its meaning. Afterwards, i would make sure that i have all my 10 sources. Most of my sources do come from online information. However, some do contain sources from physical text. Each source should be checked over (only because i never really understood how APA worked at first) to make sure they are correctly formatted. I also need to find a way to somehow incorporate the field research i have done for this webtext. It will not only add on to my webtext, but help create more factual information. I have checked all of my images, i have thought about adding maybe 2-3 more. However, i am still considering that option (it is not a major factor compared to what i need to do to). Making sure i have 6-8 anchor text would be great. (I do know actually know how many i have). I do need to look at the anchor text information again to make sure it is all there and correctly incorporated. To connect my podcast to my webtext would be an easier task than it was previously. I have already worked on making sure the two are connected. The only minor things i can find to help connect the two is by making sure all material is related in some way. If i do find any material that isn't i will either add or remove some of the material from my webtext. Finnaly, i do feel a complete redo of the final conclusion is in order. The last paragraphs are better conclusions, than the conclusions themselves. The conclusion needs to wrap up everything i have talked about, the research that has been done, and the factual evidence well organized from the body of the webtext.

I do have enough support, i just need to make sure it is well incorporated within my webtext.

Adam (Nov. 11 2010). Hybrid classes can offer modern day online education conveniences with classroom-based courses. Retrieved Online From http://www.classesandcareers.com/education/2010/11/11/hybrid-classes-can-offer-modern-day-online-education-conveniences-with-classroom-based-courses/

This article discusses how higher education institutes integrate technology at different levels and for what courses technology is mostly needed for. They categorize different types of courses which technology helps the most, and also includes the courses that don't require much technology. However, they do require technology for the high-demand courses. Colleges can offer "hybrid' classrooms that integrate traditional teaching styles that include lectures without using computers or programs, but use technology for students to grasp different aspects of concepts.

This article seems to be misleading when you look at the author. The only author information is a name of just Adam. With little information about the person other than articles done by the same author, the site itself is extremely credible. It has different tabs discussing about factual college information that it uses in order to create true informative articles. There is much accuracy due to its use of college information and links to the colleges that generated the educational information. The article is also only a year old. Showing that this information is recent and applicable to today's day of age. The article has little bias to it due to the wide variety of college information it uses.

Eric Mazur (March-April 2012). Twilight of Lecture. Retrieved online from http://harvardmagazine.com/2012/03/twilight-of-the-lecture#.T1URI3sRLkw.email

Studies have shown from Eric Mazur that learning is at its highest when using active learning, instead of having students look up online information when they don't understand it at first. Students are able to grasp concepts more easily if subjects are discussed with fellow peers. He also discusses how students might be able to look up any information on a subject online, but does that information really teach concepts to students? According to his statistics, apparently, not all of the time. He creates his studies off of the courses he teaches with trials and  tests of his own. However, he does use other college studies of how other professors have had students interact with each other instead of using technology after lectures were over. The main point of his article was to inform us as readers that technology is useful. However, traditional uses and techniques are one of the most fundamental ways of teaching concepts by using active learning.

Eric Mazur is a college professor of physics at Harvard University, a leading ivy league school developing new studies for student technology integration. He is a well known professor throughout the educational community. His studies are well known and have been used in other courses within the higher educational environment. The information that he discusses and develops are from his own work and advice of other co-workers from Harvard. Eric Mazur has been constantly updating this recent article since march of 2012. This information can easily relate to today's use of technology integration. Eric Mazur seems to be slightly biased, but most of his information seems to come from much credible sources other than his own.

In the slideshow, I would want to start it off by pointing out that higher education uses technology. Slides would include newer classrooms that use modern technologies within a campus, graphs showing what percent of colleges use modern technology. It will show students actually interacting with new pieces of technology, and also show how professors use modern tech to teach. Then show what original uses are still used today by showing modern classrooms with older equipment still being completely useful within a classroom. Also, there will be some sort of factual slide showing how much traditional tools are used within higher education classrooms. After discussing those points, I will bring up the how professors admit to new technologies interfering from students actually "learning" the material. Slides will show test scores dropping. Thus explaining that technology can help students remember, but keep students from learning the actual material. I will slowly conclude the slide by showing what has been done to approach these problems, and that technology is a great tool to use. However, technology needs to be used carefully in order to have a well developed course within this digital age of time.

There are numerous differences between texts and podcasts. A podcast and a written text is used for specific purposes. A podcast may express emotions, tone, stress, and emphasis on topics better than a written text. On the other hand, a written text can show specific details that may be understood by those who have the need to read instead of listen. A podcast has the advantage of using a voice. Having a having a voice may express emotions within each word of every sentence, and explain the importance of a quote without even using extra words. Words within a  podcast can be stressed by tone to create an emphasis on a specific subject. Even part of a sentence that does not have emphasis on it means that it will be less noticed than other specific words. When someone listens to how a person speaks. Words spoken can be interpreted into different meanings. Words may be stated to mean one idea, or added with another tone to completely mean something different. A word can be used to ask a question, or can be used to make a firm statement with a firm voice. In podcasts a tone makes the biggest difference when presenting a case than from a written text. How someone writes and uses tone within their words makes a text work. Emotion, voice, tone, and emphasis on sentences makes a podcast. Words within texts must be organised to make clear sense to a reader, but words and grammar structure may be moved around to make a statement sound more interesting. Podcasts are a great way to give a persons opinion through voice, but written text also has its advantages itself. In the real world,  people never prefer one type of material. Everyone needs something different to learn information.

2/21/2012 Andrew Compton

In phase one finding a specific topic to write about was somewhat confusing for me. I thought i could write and discuss about politics, and how certain pensions take away the taxpayers dollars for unjust causes. Yet, the subject what extremely contravertial, and the research found on the subject was hard to find, or if information was found. Many biased opinions were put into the matter. The subject matter is how far educative programs with today's technology,. and how well it has helped develop education in today's age. Yet, with all of the resources, tools, and computers we have at hand today. Some higher education methods are hindered because of these advances in technology.

Composing the webtext's it's layout was a challenge because of the idea of having it match what i am writing about. The fonts and colors in the webtext that i chose make me happy the way they are layed out. The webtext is extremely easy to read and pleasing to the eye. Images are quick and interesting to the eye. The matter within the webtext has been  has been a subtle tone, the way i have been writing has been slightly boring to myself even. I have had to look over what i have wrote and change the matter in my webtext paragraphs. Subject's within my topic are a slight challenge when trying to place them in a correct order or manner. Having to discuss my topic has also been difficult for me in the beginning, and still poses many challenges due it the poor decisions I make. I have made many choices about what my main topic. It has been challenging to find the write information and then take that information to write a well thought out thesis statement. After finding what the thesis statement would be, the questions to help develop my topic became somewhat less difficult. Finding key words and phrases then breaking them down into the shortest, but most meaningful questions throughout the discussions has been a great help.

Finding research on this topic has been a difficult challenge, and much time has been spent into finding the research I am looking for. I still am trying to find the right sort of information about what specific technologies have increased higher educational. Since the specific topic about higher education has been difficult to find information. The decisions of weather or not it being only about higher education or education in general has been thought of. Although there are and will be many challenges while developing this webtext. I will strive to have a well developed webtext.

6 annotated bibliographies

I ended following your previous advice about the other subject. The research i found in government pensions was either insufficient in each article, and hard to come by non biased responses. I have found 8-10 sites that i will post. I will continue to annotate each site. If you wish. I can annotate the previous sites that i have found about the subject you have mentioned. Only this blog will annotate the latest six research i have found. I will do whatever extra work you require me to do since i have decided to change my subject.

What measures have been taken to improve today's higher education?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By: Wilbert J. McKeachie
Center for Research on Learning and Teaching and National Center for Research to Improve Postsecondary Teaching and Learning, University of Michigan

http://lib-proxy.purduecal.edu:2461/ehost/detail?sid=0a2a0e97-5df9-45b2-b29f-ce358e3a4916%40sessionmgr15&vid=1&hid=14&bdata=JnNpdGU9ZWhvc3QtbGl2ZQ%3d%3d#db=pdh&AN=edu-82-2-189

Summary.
Wilbert J. McKeachie writes about collected list of authors' information about college education, and what methods that are used by diverse professors. His writings summarizes the methods of teachings and states what could be used to improve lectures and notes the highlights of well developed teaching methods. His writings compare certain courses' methods, and he finds what the most effective courses are and also talks of what they lack compared to others. Much of the writing is about research on course teaching methods, and what is has been done over time to improve our college students' education.
Assessment.
The material in this online recourse could be used to help show what ways are effective on one class but ineffective in another. Also, the research points out critical facts about common teaching methods that are done in classrooms. The writing even talks of common student habits and what professors do to help students better understand material. Not only is this topic about pure research, it also gives insight into the minds of multiple student heads, and how not everyone learns the same. It shows that there is a problem that needs to be confronted, and measures are being taken to improve education.
Reflection
I would use this source for my project to find statistical research, and use it support why and how faculty, students, and professors teach, process information, and help others. This information goes into the early beginning of my topic. It is mostly collected research information that has important notes highlighted not only for me, but any other reader. This source is extremely helpful due to its factual base. It is not biased and is full of trustworthy information.

The Problem with Lecturing
by: Emily Hanford
Feb, 2012
http://americanradioworks.publicradio.org/features/tomorrows-college/lectures/problem-with-lecturing.html

Summary
In this online writing, a Emily Hanford talks about how another professor discovers how much college lectures may be ineffective in certain courses. The professor Hestenes made his own research reflecting basic foundations of introduction physics courses with on a thousand students form two different colleges. He tested them at the beginning of the semester and then at the end. Improvement only increased by fourteen percent, but all still failed. He noticed that all lectures were extremely similar in their teaching methods. He also found his methods were similar as well. These methods included notes taken from assigned books to courses and then spoken right to a group of students. He had concluded that different methods need to be created in some courses. Students learn in their own way, and sometimes have more troubles learning in ways a professor might think works well, but in the end it does not work at all.
Assessment:
Due to the research conducted by a wide audience of students. I believe this source is not biased, it is more informational and provides hard proof of similar teaching methods that have failed including his own. This source is a wonderful indication of lecture methods that need to me changed, and what ideas there are to help change teaching methods.
Reflection:
For this source, I would definitely use for factual evidence in my topic. This source definitely gave insight on what can be done to change methods, and what methods really do no work for a majority of classes. This source does claim to conduct research about one type of course, but it can show that other courses might or might not require the same teaching methods that are given.

The problem of passive learning from lectures in college
by: Mary Therese, Leigh Gossl, Jack Roviere, Kimberly A. Smith, Alexia Alexandria
March 28, 2008
http://www.helium.com/items/955570-the-problem-of-passive-learning-from-lectures-in-colleges

Summary
This is an online article about how students have different styles of learning, how teaching methods are well developed in some classes and compare them to classes that do not work as well. Also, it shows research about the steps taken to improve a course. It details information about the successful courses and talks about their technical ways of having students interact with each other using methods given by a professors lecture.
Assessment:
This source is is highly useful because it takes the view points of multiple authors and professors. It takes much research from other sites and puts them together to show more productive measures that have been taken to improve the way courses have been taught. It shows many other steps on what measures that have been taken to understand students, and professors.
Reflection:
This topic would be helpful by supporting the main topic of my project. Because it talks mostly about what has been done to help improve today's higher education, and what is being done on an everday basis. This source has almost unlimited about of information about the steps taken to enhance college education, and what improvements did not have much effect at all. This information shocks even myself, knowing how much has really been put fourth to help improve mine, and everyone's education.

Improve College Teaching
by: Benn R. Erickson, Bette L. Erickson.
Journal (1979) Ohio State University.
http://lib-proxy.purduecal.edu:2091/openurl?volume=50&date=1979&spage=670&issn=00221546&issue=5

Summary:
This is a journal of collected information about a course that was struggling to teach students certain information that was required to understand, and what trails and methods were used over a period of time to improve those methods. The topics cover struggling methods turning into successful teaching methods that helped students and other teachers. It mainly goes over what went on in courses, and how students best learned by interacting with each other. Then making improvements to the particular method, and how it developed into an almost fully successful course.
Assessment:
This source is extremely useful, because it shows how common students need certain methods to learn reading from text. It not only shows how students struggled in courses, but how other professors struggled to improve their courses. Since much of it was research that was done about multiple schools and courses, it is hard to believe that most of the information given is biased.
Reflection:
I would use this topic to help give information about common problems within classrooms, and what trials that have been done to improve a course. This shows what methods have been developed into more successful ones and how it works in multiple courses.

IMPROVING COLLEGE TEACHING
by: Peter Seldin
http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/vc_academic_affairs/improve.html

Summary:
This source includes a broad explanation of what improvements are taken to enhance courses, barriers that keep courses from being improved, and how students and professors need to take their own actions to help improve themselves from a classroom. It gives much insight on what methods are ineffective, and what methods become more effective than others.
Assessment:
This source is useful because it gives another perspective on why certain methods need improvement, but sometimes they cannot be improved due to other factors. It asks and answers questions that many students and professors may ask, and it talks about why/how methods are always being improved.
Reflection:
This research is useful due to its different approach than other research that has been done. It takes common and more advanced questions about teaching methods, and explains and evaluates them. The topic makes you think why professors teach the way they do, and how students might think methods are ridiculous. However, those methods might be even more useful to students if they open up to the methods instead of shutting down on certain methods.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Methods of Improvement
http://www.helium.com/items/1098132-the-problem-of-passive-learning-from-lectures-in-colleges
Summary:
This research talks of what today's teaching methods have of students, and what methods are helping students better understand a course's content.
Assesment:
This source was useful due to the information about modern improvements done to education. It compares what used to be done in other education, and what steps were taken to improve those methods.
Reflection: Although this source is great to look at about modern methods, it does seem slightly biased due to the fact that the research has been done only on one school.

Proposal draft:
Government pensions, the taxpayers money being wasted and local/state governments budgets going way over spending limit. What can we as citizens of the United States do to solve these problems?

Government pensions are costing taxpayers more because of politicians greed. Many politicians fight for ridiculous pensions that reach over $200,000 annually. Some requirements for these pensions are extremely simple to earn. The problems of today's economy can be solved with many other programs, but no extra programs may be created if taxpayers money is spent by the billions in other areas of government.

"Chicago's $20 billion pension problem"
November 16, 2010
By Jason Grotto, Tribune reporter

Jason is a known writer and researcher in today's news. He has eleven years of journalism experience after he graduated from University of Missouri in 2000. Much of his groundbreaking journalism has exposed corrupt government.

Chicago tribune reporter Jason Grotto has found much research on recent events about Chicago's rising debts. His article has multiple cases of the Chicago leaders overspending on government pensions due poor predictions. None of his arguments are biased because he takes information given from multiple sources about the same exact topic he discusses. He also does much field research on his own to find true information.

"Just how big are pension Liabilities?"
March 4, 2011

Bryan Leonard is a Budget Research Analyst. He writes his own topics off of other politicians ideas. He is a graduate of Montana State University.

His article is about solutions that have been researched and reviewed to try and solve state debts in pensions. Proper ideas and solutions given from well known politicians are included in much of his work.  He talk of taking away at least fifty percent of most annual pensions for those who have worked much less periods of time.

"Pension problems serve as a 'Wake-up'"

http://kokomotribune.com/local/x597287919/Pension-problems-serve-as-wake-up

This article talks of how local government has gone over its spending money and now is in debt because of this. The money is needed elsewhere, not our government leaders' pockets.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Government pensions are causing state and national debt. Also, they excuses for government positions to earn more than necessary amount of taxpayers money annually. Doing research on this topic would be extremely helpful to learn how and why our economy is struggling on specific categories, and what can be done to solve these problems. Writing about this topic will help inform others what happens to our money as taxpayers, and what can be done to help these problems from occurring often. Those who would be most interested on this topic would most likely be higher paying voters for presidents, senators, governors etc..., taxpayers, and students who are interested in politics. This information might be enlightening to them, and could help groups actually make a change if they are that interested in this topic. To those who do not know what is going on. These problems would be an eye opener to most groups. Money that is spent should be used on helpful programs in today's economy. Not overspent budgets to retired and working politicians who unworthily receive overpaid amounts of annual taxpayers money.

Is it possible to do a complete subject change? Just recently i was inspired to do research on a topic that is personal to me, yet it is a major problem in today's education and society.

If i chose a new topic. It would be be about how majority of today's college lectures have become almost useless. Much of the research i found was out of pure curiosity. Also, this is extremely personal to me because this is true in other classes that i currently attend, and i would love to learn more about this subject more than anything i have ever thought of.

In today's current research, studies have found that majority of professors lectures have become almost useless to succeeding in class. Much of the research found has concluded that lectures only consist of what is in the book that is assigned to a classroom and nothing else related to the outside world. A class might be lectured on an assigned book for a whole semester, yet nothing outside of the book in similar subjects are discussed about. Also, teaching methods of "repeating" after the book or shortening of books into powerpoints, printed out packets, or slide shows renders lectures completely pointless. Students have more of a chance to read the books themselves than to listen a shortened version of a chapter.

Lectures do not teach the concept of a chapters. Instead it only covers the material in shortened versions. Teachers are currently needing to revise their teaching methods, and more research is being done to prove that teachers are caring less about how they teach. Students lose the ability to grasp the concept that is in front of their face because a professor fails to explain how a concept actually works. What is even worse is that professors understand so much of what they are talking about and students do not understand a word they are saying, or the concept the professor is describing from the book.

"College lectures, are we really learning the concepts we are paying for, or are professors repeating just the books?"

"Professors repeating assigned course books in lectures, are students really grasping concepts on their own?"

Having trouble of grasping concepts from professors that lecture only shortened book versions, and learn more from just the book?"

"Don't understand your college lectures because they are right out of the book? Then why should paying students require to attend lectures?"

Current research states that college lectures don't help grasp concepts of course studies at all instead of the books, why?

Here is a link to what the real problems are and what is being to fix them:

Billions of tax dollars are spent towards governmental job pensions. Ridiculous amounts are given to higher governmental positions, and even more unnoticed ones. These jobs already provide enough income themselves to put anyone into early retirement. More of this money should be spent to benefit the country.

This topic will examine the everyday examples around us that most people do not see. It will show how much tax dollars are really spent on certain programs and how much of the money is really being put in our leaders' pockets.

Governmental pensions. Do we really need them?

How much of the taxpayers money be spent on more beneficial programs, instead of our leaders' wallets?

What possibilities are there to stop state budgets from going over, and for that spending to be put to better use than our government workers' wallets?

"Pension problems serve as a 'Wake-up'"

Knowing how much my father has hated politics all of his life, has always made me wonder why he hates it so much. Ironically he hates politics, but he loves to speak of the problems that occur within the government. I have been blessed with being able to grow up within high income family. Also, seeing how much of the current economic troubles this society is facing a lot of it has come down onto our family. It makes the higher income working class to work even harder everyday to maintain their status. I have noticed a lot more than most peers of my age would because of my position. Interestingly enough, my father is the only one who speaks of politics so i hear everything that is going on daily. Since i have learned of how money is used, spent, wasted, and given away. I have always wanted to know what could be done to fix such problems, and if there is any other group of people who feel the way i do about our governments wasted expenses.

Attempt 1: How much has greed, power, and persuasion affected the United State's government and its people, and what can the scheming behind the country's back be stopped?

How can the scheming that is wasting our taxpayers money be stopped within our governments wall?

Rich or poor, what is there to be done to stop our money from being given away to those who don't deserve it?

How much of the taxpayers dollars should be used on beneficial programs, and how much money really should be going into a retired governmental leader's pocket?

Rich or poor, how can we stop taxpayers money from being given away to young, retired, governmental leaders?

Taxpayers dollars. Is a large portion of it really being spent to help the government?

Pensions and terms of service
Ridiculous pensions are given out to a lot of those with a government job. This semester i would like to discuss of how much money is wasted every year when government jobs receive more than what is owed. Much of taxpayers money goes towards these pensions. Government jobs only require small time lines of work. Afterwords, so much money is given to that individual that the money is almost wasted. Struggles will always continue to stop this because the law is on the governments side. Lawyers fight for their jobs and their pensions, and make it even harder to fight against if a lawyer can raise his or her pay just because they understand the law more than others.

Scheming that goes on in govt jobs
Much scheming is done within government walls. Even if those positions aren't major. People are always receiving bribes, acquiring illegal trade information, and finding legal but ridiculous ways to earn more money.

The working class of our economy has to work everyday to earn as much as one of these government positions. If someone who earns as much as a lawyer or senator decides to stop working. They would fall into economic struggles extremely quick if they did not have something to back them up. If someone such as a lawyer decided to retire at an early age after at least two years of working. They could stay that way for the rest of their life.

The wealthier class who earns as much as a senator will have a much more difficult way or finding a way to retire at an early age. They must work to where they are at. Not as if a senator or someone similar does not have to work hard to earn their degree, but working for a long time does not have to be in their lives agenda. Much fighting and struggling occurs in today's economy, and a lot of us have to struggle to make sure we stay in the wealthy position we are in.
I do not know much about government jobs, but what i do know is that any governmental job that a person receives will receive a pension automatically once they are hired. In today's world. Economic struggles occur everywhere. Money is taken for ones own benefit. One of the biggest schemes that goes on in our government is pensions.

Once a government position is achieved by an individual. Automatically, an individual receives a pension for working their term limit. Many of those pensions are from one hundred thousand dollars to four hundred thousand dollars. For any individual who earns a position to earn a pension such as these. They may retire at an extremely early age. Some of the people in our country who are wealthy have to work everyday to earn the same as a governmental position. If an individual stops working, and used to work for the government. They do not have to worry about losing a job or stop working. However, if a person who works everyday for a non governmental position decides to stop working. They have no source of income.

Much of this money is wasted and could go to much better causes. Pensions should not be given to someone who works only two to four years. These pensions are given so often that retirement becomes so easy to those who receive them. Much of what goes on in government positions is still unknown to me. I do know that much trade scheming is done all of the time, and it does happen often when someone in a government position is caught, but it cannot be proven that it does happen all of the time. I also have no clue what is done to fight these problems. Much is talked of how people do fight against these government jobs and their payments, but it becomes extremely difficult when most of these government positions include lawyers. Much smack talk goes on behind peoples backs. What makes fighting this problem even more difficult is when the law is on the governments side.
